I received my Master’s degree in Applied Physics from Oregon State University through the Professional Science Master’s (PSM) program in the winter of 2007. This program encompasses a blend of analysis, management, communications, and finance courses that provide professionals with the business skills necessary to readily earn management positions.

After interning at NASA, SRI International, and SETI, and performing two years of graduate instruction, I sought experience outside of traditional physics fields as an appropriate capstone to my PSM program. I found such an opportunity in the finance department of ViewPlus Technologies, a growing small company that seeks to make all information accessible to people without sight. As physicist Dr. John Gardner, the founder and president of ViewPlus stated to me, “The study of physics is in practice the study of problem solving.” Likewise, I have found that I am well suited for addressing financial issues and I am happy to now have a fulltime position as an Operations Specialist for ViewPlus.

In my two years at ViewPlus, I have had the opportunity to work in many areas, including budget development, analysis, and revision, supporting the establishment and financial processes of our international branch, acquiring and managing grant funds, composing the 2007 and 2008 Annual Reports, and managing and presenting at the corresponding stockholder meetings. I also develop procurement requirements and solicit, evaluate, and negotiate bids, supervise financial reporting, and create financial analysis tools, among many other responsibilities. I enjoy my work at ViewPlus because it is challenging, involves both team and individual projects, and offers opportunities for continued personal growth.

In addition to my work at ViewPlus, I serve on the board of the Software Association of Oregon Corvallis Chapter, and I am a business plan judge for the Austin Entrepreneurship Program. I am also a volunteer undergraduate physics labs instructor at Oregon State University.

In 2006, I returned from a year-long deployment in Kuwait where I served as policy advisor, website administrator, and Sergeant for the U.S. Army’s efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Africa. I earned an Honorable Discharge for my eight years of military service, and I was awarded an Army Commendation Medal for my accomplishments in Kuwait.

Lastly, I am an active writer with professional and creative publications. I enjoy systematic problem solving, project management, always learning and feeling challenged.

Thank you for reviewing my site and please feel free to contact me with any questions.
